I wash them then carefully drill them.\u003cbr\u003eI do not do anything else to the glass. It is naturally tumbled and frosted for many years in the sea. I use a tiny amount of oil to enhance the colour for photos that’s it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach piece is unique therefore,  no pair of earrings will be the same or even match in shape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll earrings are sterling silver hooks. Pendants can be on sterling silver chain or black cord.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHistory of sea glass\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSea glass jewellery has been popular for about 25 years, however it’s found on beaches around the world since the mid 1960s. Before that point almost every thing was kept in glass jars and bottles. People just threw it away into the sea. Then we find it all polished tumbled and frosted years later on our beaches.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHow it’s made\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTrue “sea glass” formed in the ocean takes anywhere from 50-100 years to create. Constant tumbling in the salt water create smooth edges. It comes in all sizes shapes and colours. Some rarer than others.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCommon colours\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhite, brown, and green are fairly common and can be found on most beaches. White glass can be dated back to the late 1800s and early 1900s when clear soda bottles were in mass production. Brown and green often come from beer bottles.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRare colours\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe rarest are purple, red and opaque, or milk glass. Purple sea glass usually comes from old household items like dishes or cups. Red tends to come from lamps, stained glass, and car lights. I spent many hours with my grandmother who was a hat designer in the 1920s in Luton for her family’s hat factory. She  was a very talented woman and did many crafts, and her her senior years won many a competition with her Easter bonnets etc. she had a lot of materials i.e. seed beads as I now know them. She gave them to me and I used to make bracelets with cotton and a a needle. This was a dream of mine to be a jewellery maker. However time goes by marriage children etc, so was shelved. 5 years ago my boyfriend gave me a jewellery making kit and from there it has become my passion and grown into a fairly successful business. I have lived in Cornwall for 34 years, and I am inspired by the crystal clear light we get here, and the array of colours that this light projects, from the beautiful clear waters with there hues of blues and greens, to the browns and golds of the moors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e My main inspiration now comes from the sea. You don’t need any expensive equipment or expertise.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere are rare sea glass pieces to keep your eye out for. Reds, blues , purples and marbles. As you can see I turn these treasures into gorgeous unique jewellery, no two pieces are the same.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e I also have found a love of working with copper wire. These colours are inspired by the moors that surround me also. Bare copper has a multitude of colours from really shiny to patina blues and dark copper. I use a variety of beads and sea glass in my work.
