About Jack Russells & Cocker Spaniels:

Jack Russell Terriers and Cocker Spaniels were originally introduced as hunting dogs. They were used to drive game towards the keepers, but not to harm them, which was considered unsporting.

In 1819, the Reverend John (Jack) Russell, left Exeter College, Oxford, and bought a small tan and white terrier female from the local milkman, called Trump. He bred her and used the dogs for hunting the moors of Devon which was his passion, and that’s how this dog breed was named after him. 

The modern-day Cocker Spaniel is a descendant of Land Spaniels and Water Spaniels. The differentiation among the Spaniels we see today did not begin until the mid-19th Century.  

These days both breeds are still seen as working dogs, some even making appearances in TV, films and print, and have become firm favourites all around the world.  With boundless energy, intelligence, and charming personalities, they really are two of our most loved dog breeds today.
